August 8, 2017: Carol Burris

Carol Burris recently wrote, “One of the chief criticisms of charter schools is that policy around charters is often made based not on the best interest of students, but based on the best interest of politicians.” One of those decisions, according to Burris, is the SUNY Charter Institute board’s desire to fast-track charter school teacher certification. Burris, a former New York high school principal; former 2010 Educator of the Year & former 2013 NY High School Principal of the Year, is currently executive director of the Network for Public Education, a nonprofit education advocacy group. She joined Susan to discuss the issue.
