WLIW-New York’s Visions series journeys to the heart of the Alps to capture the idyllic essence of Central Europe’s crown jewel for the 19^th program in this popular series. Stunning high definition footage shot in winter and spring captures the highlights: Vienna, capital of the Republic of Austria and residence of the ruling Hapsburgs for centuries, where elegant shops still evoke imperial magnificence; Hohensalzburg, the architectural embodiment of the power of the prince-archbishops; Innsbruck, the site of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games where the view along the Maria-Theresien-Strabe towards the steep slopes of the Karwendel mountain range combines townscape and landscape for a magical postcard-perfect moment; Linz, straddling the banks of the Danube and the industrial and modern Austria; Bregenz, popular vacation destination for sun and skiing; and winding through it all west to east, the Danube River, lined by castles, Renaissance palaces, churches and abbeys that have borne witness to the region’s international history.
