“The Performers: Taking Center Stage in New York State Agriculture”

“The Performers: Taking Center Stage in New York State Agriculture” is a documentary that features farms across the state using 21st century production techniques. You don’t want to miss this colorful program presented in an HD format.

How long has it been since you’ve been down on the farm? If it has been awhile, you will thoroughly enjoy this original HD documentary. WCNY producers journeyed across New York State visiting 21st century farmers going high tech.

With incredible insight into marketing, managing and the mathematics of it all, these volume producing agri -businessmen compete in a global economy. On many farms, they no longer plant or feed by hand; machines do the work for them. Cows no longer have names. Instead they have numbers and are tracked by computer. And some farmers are banking on the fact that one day cow manure may be worth more than the milk. New technology is allowing them to turn manure into methane, so they can provide power to their property.

The contemporary, upbeat documentary is set to Broadway style music. You will visit Reeves vegetable farm in Baldwinsville and Plainville turkey farm in Syracuse. Voorheesville’s Indian Ladder Farm grows 43 varieties of apples. At Satur Farms on Long Island, meet a former New York City chef turned gourmet grower. Ever heard of purple carrots? See how Ivy Acres grows and sells 70 million plants a year. Ridgeline Farm in Clymer is venturing into energy production. Intergrow Greenhouses in Albion grow tomatoes and peppers 11 months out of the year. Roxbury Farm in Kinderhook embraces consumer supported agriculture. Evans Farmhouse Creamery in Norwich makes organic yogurt. Patterson Farms in Auburn provide Central New Yorkers with fresh milk. Dr Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars in Hammondsport brought the northern European grape to New York, and SUNY ESF is turning willows into fuel.

This is agriculture like you have never seen it before, with high tech equipment that drives us into the future. It is an entertaining way to discover what’s going on backstage at New York State farms.
