WCNY give gift of music this holiday seasonThrough a unique collaboration between Syracuse University and WCNY, Central New York residents will be able to unwrap a gift of music on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, at 2 p.m., with a special television/radio simulcast of “Holidays at Hendricks,” the annual Hendricks Chapel Holiday Concert, on WCNY-TV (Channel 24 or Time Warner Cable Channel 11) and WCNY-FM (91.3 in Syracuse, 89.5 in Utica and 90.9 in Watertown).

The 90-minute program, recorded live Dec. 2 in SU’s historic Hendricks Chapel, features the Syracuse University Brass Ensemble (SUBE), the Hendricks Chapel Choir and the Hendricks Chapel Handbell Ringers performing individually and in combination. Musical selections include traditional carols, a cappella motets, Renaissance music for organ and brass, and a traditional Chanukah song. The concert concludes with the singing of “Silent Night” by candlelight.

For a complete listing of the songs and performers, visit http://hendricks.syr.edu/holidayconcert/.

The brass ensemble was directed by James Spencer, the choir by John Warren, and the handbell ringers by Jessica Bowerman. University Organist Kola Owolabi provided accompaniment.

The program was produced by the Video Production Unit of SU Information Technology and Services. Neal Coffey was director of photography. Camera operators were VPU technical specialist Roxane Niezabytowski and VPU work-study students Kerryann Foley, a senior television-radio-film major, and Rose Margolis, a junior television-radio-film major. The program was edited by Mary Kasprzyk, VPU technical specialist and also a member of the SU Brass Ensemble. James Abbott from SU’s Setnor School of Music was the audio engineer.
