Carr Salutes Van Heusen on WCNY-FM

Dick Carr’s Big Bands Ballads & BluesDick Carr, host of “Dick Carr’s Big Bands Ballads & Blues”, will pay tribute to Syracuse-born songwriter Jimmy Van Heusen. The program airs Saturday, December 22. Carr will play his songs and present interesting stories about Van Heusen and his close friendship with Frank Sinatra.

According to Carr, “Jimmy’s real name was Edward Chester Babcock. He graduated from Central High School and Syracuse University. His nephew, Brook Babcock, who heads up Van Heusen Music Corporation in Nashville, has provided me with lots of interesting background material on Van Heusen. We’ll feature Jimmy’s story and music in the 6-7 pm portion of the show.”

On December 29, Carr will feature Johnny Mercer.

“Dick Carr’s Big Bands Ballads & Blues” is committed to presenting music by the Jazz Masters and the Great American Songbook Composers. In recent weeks, Carr has featured music and stories on composers Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hart, Duke Ellington and Harold Arlen.

“Dick Carr’s Big Bands Ballads & Blues” is heard Saturdays, 6-8 pm, on WCNY-FM, 91.3 in Syracuse, WJNY-FM, 90.9 in Watertown, WUNY-FM, 89.5 in Utica and on the World Wide Web at www.wcny.org.
