WCNY offers unpaid internships for college students throughout the year. They are designed to provide training and experience for students interested in broadcasting. Internship opportunities include: Media Services/Web/Graphics Media Services includes print, on-air and web design. Perform a variety of tasks to assist the Media Services Department. Interns must have clear understanding of design principles and know their way around the Mac/PC/scanner. Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Knowledge of Dreamweaver, Flash or After Effects an excellent addition. Major in graphics or web design or related field preferred.
Television Production WCNY maintains a vigorous, ongoing production schedule of programs for local, statewide and national broadcast. Interns assist in studio and remote productions for public broadcasting and for-profit productions. Major in Communications, Television/Radio or associated field preferred. Must be able to work cooperatively and follow instruction. Must have a flexible schedule.
Communications/Public Relations
Perform a variety of tasks to assist the Communications Department. Interns receive hands-on experience in many aspects of public relations, publishing, member relations, promotions and event management. Excellent writing and grammar skills. Pleasant and courteous phone manner. Major in English, communications, journalism or related field preferred.
CLASSIC FM
Assist in remote and studio production, FM library, studio board operation, special projects and/or day-to-day operations. Familiarity with classical music, interest in audio production, solid computer skills. Prior radio experience preferred. Solid computer skills a plus.
READ-OUT - Radio Reading Service Read-Out is WCNY's 24-hour radio reading service for the print-handicapped. Perform a variety of tasks to assist the staff and volunteers with preparation of reading materials and studio operations. Excellent writing and grammar skills. Attention to details a must. Major in communications, human services a plus. Prior radio experience and/or interest in audio production preferred.
Engineering Department Production Engineering Internship Interns in this position would gain valuable experience by observing live and taped television productions, including audio and tape/video production. The intern would observe and assist Engineering personnel responsible for the setup and control of the audio portion of the television production, and the setup and control of video cameras and videotape machines before and during a television production. The intern would assist in setup for productions and gain experience in the many and varied demands of production engineering for live productions.
Electronic Technician Internship Interns in this position would observe and assist engineering electronic maintenance personnel in daily preventative maintenance and repair of studio and master control equipment and RF transmission equipment. The intern will gain helpful experience in applying electronic theory to actual situations.
Auction Department WCNY holds two televised auctions during the year. The intern will assist in the coordination of one of these major fundraisers. Duties may include processing donations, writing copy and assisting with overall details prior to and during the event. Strong writing skills preferred. Must be organized and work well as a team member.
