WCNY-FM is the only classical music radio station in Central New York. It can be heard on WCNY-FM, 91.3, Syracuse, WUNY-FM, 89.5, Utica, WJNY-FM, 90.9, Watertown, and worldwide via web streaming. Our visually impaired audience can also access READ-OUT, a radio reading service. PBS Interconnect
In 2006, WCNY took a lead in designing, developing, and coordinating a state-wide fiber optic network that allows all nine New York State PBS stations to share resources, programming, and services; and to use new digital technologies. PBS Interconnect is up and running, and is responsible for keeping the Mountain Lake PBS programming on the air when their transmission tower was knocked down in a Spring 2007 storm. WCNY is currently creating a business model that could be adopted nationally to determine the best use of existing and future operational capabilities and efficiencies. We foresee this new technology to be advantageous to viewers regarding greater variety of programming that can be aired at a fraction of the cost.
