In 2008 WCNY had a major presence at the Great New York State Fair (August 21-September 1, 2008). Our presence was strengthened by a desirable new booth location on the perimeter of Chevy Court and by our nonstop, dynamic lineup of events illustrative of the station’s commitment to lifelong learning, programming and entertainment.
One main attraction featured an appearance by crew members of the Emmy Award-winning favorite home improvement series, “This Old House.”
The “This Old House” experts hit the Main Stage at Chevy Court on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM to discuss upcoming projects, share some behind-the-scenes anecdotes and answer the audience's home improvement questions.
Following their performance at Chevy Court, the crew headed to a VIP Party at the Empire Room where attendees met the crew in person, got their home improvement questions answered, and enjoyed some tasty hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and an autographed work apron.
Other exciting highlights included an August 28 taping of “New York Now” with Susan Arbetter – a PBS public affairs production out of Albany, live weekday tapings of WCNY’s daytime cooking and talk show “Food for Thought” taping of the WCNY public affairs favorite “The Ivory Tower Half Hour,” a special half-hour taping each day of the “Fair Show” covering the fair’s many events and daily taping of “Double Down at the Fair” – a fun, educational game show based on the WCNY production “Double Down.”
There were also daily chances to meet WCNY stars, including an opportunity to meet the future stars of the new WCNY original program, “Jr. Lab Ratz.” All day long, kids of all ages stopped by our booth to check out the Interactive Education Kiosk and to explore the many corners of WCNY’s educational Web site.
The Syracuse NewTimes Theater also featured many award-winning WCNY and WCNY AXXESS Productions documentaries, including “Dream Destinations: New York’s Contemporary Canals,” “Auspicious Vision: Edward Wales Root and American Modernism” and “The Performers: Taking Center Stage in New York State Agriculture.”
WCNY can't wait to return to the 2009 Great New York State Fair!
