Right now, you can listen to our radio station, CLASSIC FM, on your computer any time of the day, and anywhere you can get an internet connection. We have been providing this service for many years, and have added some capabilities and additional value for our members.By going to our website at this location: www.wcny.org/listenlive
You can tune in to WCNY-CLASSIC FM any time of the day. If you go to this webpage, you have two choices for listening. We have “LAWN SEATING” which is open to anyone by clicking on the LISTEN NOW button. However, sometimes there are more listeners than we have seats, so you may not be able to get connected. As a member of WCNY, you can automatically get a reserved seat at our PREFERRED SERVICES location on the same page. All you have to do is type in your member number and last name, and you will be guaranteed a seat. But that’s not all... If you are a member at $100 or higher, when you log in the members’ only PREFERRED SERVICES area, you will automatically get a much higher quality stream, which is close to CD quality. There’s still more... If you have been reading these articles, you know that we went “digital” in radio last year. Now we offer not only CLASSIC FM, both on the air and on-line, but also have a second radio channel called “The Original sound” which consists of music of the 50’s and 60’s. If you are one of the many viewers who have enjoyed the DooWop shows we air on WCNY-TV occasionally, this channel is right up your alley. Well…this is also available on-line.
If you go to this webpage: www.wcny.org/hdradio and then click on WCNY-HD2/LISTEN LIVE on the right side of the LP record, you’ll be connected to a live stream of that channel. Give it a listen and see what you think. Then send me an e-mail to let me know what you think about it at HD2 @wcny.org.We have had some queries about trouble people have sometimes connecting to the stream, especially when using a MAC computer.
Thanks to Steve White here at WCNY we’ve got some pointers below.
“Quite often streaming problems on the Mac are actually web browser related and can be solved quite easily. If you are using Apple Safari I would recommend trying an alternative 3rd party browser such as the popular Firefox browser by Mozilla. If that doesn't work check to make sure that you have the correct player installed. If you are running Mac OSX be sure that you have installed the correct Windows Media Player (Version 9 is current for Mac).
You can get that here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp9/default.aspx
If you're using an older MacOS, ensure that you're using Windows Media Player 7 available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp71/default.aspx
If you still are not having any luck, I recommend that you install Flip4Mac, a third party plug-in by Telestream that enables Quicktime to play Windows Media formats.
You can download that here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
Finally, you can try using this link to listen:
http://east.streamguys.com/wcnyweb If you still cannot tune in, I would recommend consulting a certified Apple expert, such as the ones at the Apple store here in Syracuse.”
