Treehouse Tales Young Writers & Illustrators Contest Rules

Contest Overview
• Each entry must be an original work written and illustrated by the entrant

Eligibility
• The Treehouse Tales Young Writers & Illustrators Contest is open to children in First, Second, Third, and Fourth Grades. Each grade level will be judged separately. Children of employees of WCNY, Public Broadcasting System, and other Public Broadcasting Stations are not eligible

Entry Guidelines
Entrants must be in First, Second, Third or Fourth Grade
• Only one entry per person will be accepted
• Only single author stories qualify (no co-authored stories)
• Stories can be fact, fiction, prose or poetry (but should tell a story)

Word Count
• Stories must contain 100-350 words
• The word count includes "a," "an," & "the," but not the words on non-story pages such as the title page

Format & Illustrations
• Stories must be created on one side of an 8 ½ X 11 paper (please do not write on back)
• Stories must have at least 5 original, clear & colorful illustrations that enhance the story
• Illustrations must be 100 percent created by the entrant
• Each page must be numbered
• Each story must have a Title Page and/or Cover Page with Title and first name of author only
• Please do not use adhesives, staples, or any other hard-to-disassemble binding materials

Story Text
• Text must be printed legibly (or typed)
• Text may be integrated into the illustration pages or individual pages
• Non English text must be translated on the same page and the translation text must adhere to word count
• Invented spelling is acceptable

Official Entry Form
• Entry form must be complete, legible, and must include parent (& teacher, if appropriate) signature
• Each entry must include the official Treehouse Tales Young Writers & Illustrators Entry Form, with the required signature of a parent/guardian (and, if appropriate, the signature of the sponsoring teacher), confirming that the story & art are original, and granting permission to use the entry for promotional purposes

Judging Criteria
• Entries will be judged on originality, creative expression, storytelling, illustrations, and overall impression
