SYRACUSE, NY, (December 7, 2009) – In collaboration with Syracuse’s Palace Theatre, WCNY will host a Movie and a Cookie fundraising event on December 13 at 2 p.m. This family-friendly event will feature a screening of 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol for children to enjoy. The classic film, full of laughter and holiday cheer, will last 89 minutes.
“WCNY focuses on family-friendly programming and it made sense to us to create an event that gives families a chance to celebrate the holiday season while supporting the station in an affordable way,” said Cathy Stevens, Director of Special Events and Volunteer Services. “We have had success in the past with our Movie and a Dinner events but this is our first event influenced by our children’s programming. As we increase our role in community events, we hope to do more for families.”
Following the film, guests can enjoy cookies, hot cocoa, coffee, and meet Clifford the Big Red Dog and Santa. Tickets for Movie and a Cookie can be purchased at WCNY prior to the event and will also be available at the Palace Theatre box office the day of the event. Ticket prices are $15 and children five and under are free. All proceeds of the event will benefit WCNY’s “Classic Movie Night” and Cinema 24, the public broadcasting station’s 24-hour movie channel on WCNY 24.3.
