WCNY TO AIR LIVE COVERAGE OF GOVERNOR DAVID PATERSON’S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS
Special Coverage to Include Live Reporting from WCNY’s News and Public Affairs Director Susan Arbetter
SYRACUSE, NY, (January 4, 2010) – WCNY will broadcast live coverage of Governor David Paterson’s State of the State Address Wednesday, January 6 at 1 p.m. on WCNY 24.1. For the first time in history, the State just about ended a calendar year in the red. New York is facing an unprecedented financial crisis that will affect every group of stakeholders, no matter how politically powerful. The Governor's State of the State Address is the first glimpse New Yorkers will have to the Governor's strategy for tackling the growing budget gap, competing interest groups, and an increasingly hostile legislative branch – all within the context of a highly politicized election year.
The hour-long broadcast will feature a live wrap-around of the Governor’s address from WCNY’s News and Public Affairs Director Susan Arbetter. Arbetter will discuss state-wide issues until Governor Paterson begins his address and will end with feedback from special guests. The analysis and insight will help interpret the meaning behind the Governor's message.
“WCNY has a strong commitment to news and public affairs and we play a vital role in keeping our community members updated on the issues that matter most to them,” said Robert J. Daino, President and Chief Executive Officer of WCNY-TV/FM and Chair of the Association of Public Broadcasting Stations of New York State.
WCNY’s “Central Issues” will also feature coverage on the State of the State Address Wednesday, January 6 at 6:30 p.m. on WCNY 24.1. “Central Issues” host George Kilpatrick will join Arbetter to discuss the Republican response to the address and reaction from various sources around the state.
