SYRACUSE, NY, (January 7, 2010) – WCNY is pleased to announce the appointment of Central New York native Peter Spartano as Executive Producer of Television Production. In this position, Spartano is responsible for the development, design, and oversight of all local, regional, and national programming including driving news content for “Central Issues” along with membership initiatives and fundraising auctions.
“We are thrilled to have Peter join our team,” said Robert J. Daino, President and Chief Executive Officer of WCNY-TV/FM and Chair of Association of Public Broadcasting Stations of New York. “His expertise and knowledge of media make him an extremely valuable asset to WCNY.”
Spartano is an award-winning journalist in the areas of writing, news production, and photojournalism. His past work has been recognized with awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association, the New York Associated Press, and the Syracuse Press Club. Spartano has been Executive Producer for News at WSYR-TV and News Director for WTVH-5 in Syracuse. Most recently, Spartano was Director of News and Creative Services for WSYT-TV in Syracuse.
Currently, Spartano is Vice President and Board Member for the Syracuse Press Club and is on the Advisory Board for Onondaga Community College’s Electronic Media Department. Spartano, a Vietnam Veteran, lives with his family in Syracuse.
