West Genesee Wins Season 5 Double Down Championship!

West Genesee - Season 5 Double Down Champions
(Jenny Smacher, Heitham Wady, Host Bill Baker, Tyler Mattis, Julia Calagiovanni, and Advisor Keith Newvine)

Over 125 exceptional students representing 32 high school teams from all over Central New York began the season with the same goal… to become the 2010 Double Down Champion.  Host Bill Baker posed the questions that tested students knowledge in seven categories; English language arts, history, science, math, arts, sports and current events.

After the dust settled on one of our most competitive seasons to date; West Genesee edged out former champ Cooperstown in an amazingly exciting game to earn the 2010 title.  Previous winners include Pulaski, Fayetteville-Manlius, Cooperstown and Bishop Ludden.

To see how your favorite school finished in the standings, watch full shows, or learn more about the program, you can visit our website at www.wcny.org/doubledown. And if you or your school would like to participate next year, please contact Nick Bennett by email (nick_bennett@wcny.org) or phone (315-453-2424).

************************

Two Central New York academic high school teams square off each episode to test their knowledge of science, math, literature, history, current events and more. Points are given for correct answers and in the “Double Down” rounds points are taken away for wrong answers. If you think you know the answers to questions like: “Who is Hester Prynne’s husband in The Scarlet Letter” or “Which planet has a thick cloud cover of carbon dioxide with a surface temperature of approximately 867 degrees Fahrenheit”, you’ll probably want to tune in to WCNY’s action-packed high school academic competition, Double Down. Tune in to watch your favorite team compete, then get connected to the week’s competition video streaming online.  Here’s your opportunity to interact with your friends as they battle it out on a cool new set under hot studio lights over and over again, and to play along to see how well you can do on Double Down!
