Tara Ross


Professor Ross is a Professor of History at Onondaga Community College (OCC) in Syracuse, New York.  She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law and a Master of Arts in History from Indiana State University. 
 
Her teaching focuses on United States and African-American History.  She is also the coordinator of the African American Studies Concentration at OCC.  Prior to joining the faculty of OCC in 1994, she taught African-American History and United States History at Radford University in Radford, VA.  There she developed and taught the University's first African-American Studies course.  Her prior professional experience includes:  Legal Advisor for the Ohio General Assembly's Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review; legislative aide for the Ohio General Assembly; and National Park Service Ranger for the Department of the Interior.
 
A regular panelist on WCNY's Ivory Tower Half Hour, she has been interviewed by the Syracuse Post Standard and other local media on current events, historical topics, and diversity issues.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Onondaga Historical Association, Cazenovia College Social Science Program Advisory Committee, and the Advisory Board for OCC's Community Aquatics Program.  She is a recipient of the OCC Trustees Award, YWCA's Diversity Achievers
