June 11, 2014: Kirsten Keefe, child safe products, call for more family court judges, Jim Odato and Ken Lovett

The Empire Justice Center’s senior staff attorney Kirsten Keefe discusses the passage of a foreclosure prevention bill in the Legislature.

The “Environmental Super Bills” this year include the Child Safe Products Act (A6328/S4614). Today we discuss the legislation with child health experts, Dr. Cappy Collins, and Dr. Perry Elizabeth Sheffield, MPH Region II Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit, Deputy Director, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Departments of Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine.

There hasn’t been much movement to alleviate the crisis in family courts since the last time attorneys Denise Kronstadt, Deputy Executive Director & Director of Advocacy at The Fund for Modern Courts & Stephanie Gendell, Associate Executive Director For Policy And Government Relations at the Citizens Committee for Children joined us, so they’re back hoping to push the legislature into action.

Each year the Legislative Correspondents Association recognizes the best statehouse reporting with awards presented at the annual LCA show. Last night the LCA Alumni awarded its prize to Ken Lovett, Albany Bureau Chief for the New York Daily News. Jim Odato, columnist and investigative reporter for the Albany Times Union received the LCA’s Jay Gallagher Memorial Award. Both have been invited to join me to discuss their award-winning reporting.
