We host a moderated conversation on the Child Safe Products Act between the Business Council and the Center for Environmental Health. Ansje Miller, the Eastern States Director for the Center for Environmental Health, will make the case for the legislation. Darren Suarez, the Director of Government Affairs for the Business Council, will argue against the bill as it’s written now.
In light of recent tragedies with oil train explosions, several lawmakers are pushing legislation that would require petroleum oil storage facilities to have enough money on hand to cover damages and decontamination in the event of a spill or explosion. Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy (D – Albany) will discuss the petroleum storage act.
Sheri Lederman, a 4th grade teacher in Great Neck with a doctorate in education from Hofstra University, is suing the New York State Education Department over what she claims are statistical flaws in the teacher evaluations. Although lauded by parents, former students and administrators, Lederman received an ineffective rating on the part of the teacher evaluations tied to state test scores, which she argues caused her personal and professional injury.
