June 19, 2015: Winners and Losers, Ken Lovett and Jimmy Vielkind, Regent Tilles, Bob Lowry and Timothy Kremer

After a week of negotiating, the governor and legislative leaders have given themselves a few days, including Fathers’ Day, to reflect and regroup. Lawmakers are scheduled to return to the Capitol on Tuesday when a rent regulation extender expires.

Several lawmakers are on this week’s City & State Winners list for securing end-of-session victories. Ashley Hupfl, a reporter for City & State, looks at who made the cut and who didn’t.

Our reporter roundtable includes Ken Lovett, the Albany Bureau Chief for the NY Daily News, and Jimmy Vielkind, the Albany Bureau Chief for Capital New York.

Regent Roger Tilles of Long Island speaks frankly about how the Board of Regents decided the new matrix for teacher evaluations. He argues the Regents did the best they could within the limited confines they were given by the governor and the Legislature.

We look at the session’s education highlights with Timothy Kremer, the executive director of the New York State School Boards Association, and Robert Lowry, the deputy director for Advocacy Research & Communication at the New York State Council of School Superintendents.
