December 7, 2018: Connect: NY Guns and a Safer Society
December 7, 2018
While the majority of gun-related crime is committed by people who illegally possess a firearm; the vast majority of guns used in the most recent mass shootings were bought legally and with federal background checks.
So how do we protect our communities?
During the program “Guns and a Safer Society” produced by WCNY, we asked that question of a panel of 6 people on various sides of the gun debate. Before a live studio audience we spared over the rights AND responsibilities of gun owners.
Sitting on our panel are:
Sen. John DeFrancisco (R-Syracuse), Deputy Senate Majority Leader
Sheriff Craig Apple (D-Albany County)
Timothy Andrews, President of the Shooter’s Committee On Political Education (SCOPE)
Asm. Bill Magnarelli (D-Syracuse), chair of the Assembly Committee on Local Governments
Helen Hudson, Syracuse Common Council President and founder of Mothers Against Gun Violence
Dr. Robert Spitzer, author and Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at SUNY Cortland
