Each year, veterans from Central New York are flown to Washington, D.C. on a trip that for many is a final salute from a grateful nation. Honor Flight Mission #015 was scheduled to take 80 veterans to visit the monuments built to commemorate the wars they waged in early May.
Due to the COVID-19 their journey is delayed. Their honor does not have to wait.
On May 25, join us for a live appreciation of the men and women from Mission #015: An Honor Flight for Our Times. In this half-hour television special, Honor Flight Syracuse and WCNY bring together veterans to tell their stories and take a visual tour of the memorials in our nation’s capital. The sites celebrated will include the World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Memorials, as well as the Arlington National Cemetery. The show is hosted by Bill Smullen (CEO of Clear Path, Chief of Staff to former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell) and Jeff Bastable (Director of Development/Philanthropy for Honor Flight).
The special will air from 1–1:30 p.m. Monday, May 25, and will be immediately followed by a documentary on the tradition, “An Honor Flight – One More Tour.” The special will feature interviews with vets whose lives have been lifted by the Honor Flights they have experienced.
As we endure a crisis of a very different type, WCNY is proud to partner with Honor Flight Syracuse to recognize the commitment and sacrifice of those who served.
Proceeds raised by this special and a full weekend of Memorial Day programming on WCNY will support Honor Flight’s programs and WCNY’s educational and cultural initiatives.
We hope to see you on board.
