Jan. 6, 2016: Speaker Heastie, People’s State of the State, Blair Horner, Robert Freeman
January 6, 2016
It’s the first day of the 2016 session. Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie will join us at the top of the show.
Today the 26th Annual People’s State of the State will take place in the Capitol’s War Room. Groups in attendance will focus on the need to help struggling families escape poverty in our state. Ron Deutsch, the executive director of the Fiscal Policy Institute, and Susan Zimet, the executive director of Hunger Action Network of New York State, will preview the event.
Good government groups including NYPIRG, Common Cause of New York and Citizens Union are kicking off the session with the unveiling of a clean conscience pledge they hope all lawmakers would sign. Blair Horner, NYPIRG’s executive director, will have more.
Robert Freeman, the executive director of the Committee on Open Government, will discuss the committee’s annual report, which, among its proposals, features bringing JCOPE under the coverage of FOIL and the Open Meetings Law.◄ Back to PodCasts
