October 9, 2018: Connect: NY on Screenagers
October 9, 2018
A special presentation of the PBS show Connect: NY…
We explore screen addiction among teenagers and hear about a film being presented at schools around the country called, “Screenagers”.
While there is no official definition for screen addiction, there is research that links social media use to depression, but like so much around technology it’s not conclusive. In fact, that’s a theme of today’s program: more research is needed to answer questions like, “why are some children more vulnerable to screen time than others?”
Today we speak with 3 experts about developing a social contract with your teenager; creating an open dialogue and navigating a problem that we adults frequently suffer from too.
• Dr. Michael Robb, Director of Research at Common Sense Media
• Bonnie Russell, Immediate past president of the New York State PTA
• Dr. David O’Rourke, District Superintendent of the Erie 2 BOCES
