Sept. 18, 2013: SUNY Cortland’s Constitution Day, Moreland hearing, and Frank Mauro

Effective-NY’s Bill Samuels has called on the Moreland Commission to look into the corporate donors to Governor Andrew Cuomo. We speak with him about last night’s Moreland hearing in New York City, as well as his call for a specific inquiry into the Governor.

Is there a link between what the Moreland Commission may recommend and changes to the state’s constitution? We ask Dr. Gerald Benjamin, Distinguished Professor of Political Science at SUNY New Paltz; and one of the principles in the Effective New York project.

What would need to happen prior to a possible Constitutional Convention for such an historic event to be successful and get the “buy in” it needs from certain groups? We speak to Peter J. Galie, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Canisius College and author of The New York State Constitution: A Reference Guide, 2nd ed.

All 3 guests will appear on Thursday at SUNY Cortland’s Constitution Day event.

Plus, the Fiscal Policy Institute is honoring the work of a NY Daily News columnist. Frank Mauro previews the event, which will take place in New York City in October.
