Help a Neighbor
WCNY’s “Won’t You Help a Neighbor?” campaign uses its television, radio, web, print and social media to help make Central New Yorkers aware of important local causes. This is a free service intended to help regional nonprofits in their efforts.
WCNY’s “Won’t You Help a Neighbor?” campaign is focusing its attention this month on The Salvation Army’s Volunteer “Army of Hope.” The Salvation Army welcomes new volunteers throughout the year to support its wide variety of programs.
The “Army of Hope” encompasses thousands of volunteers who donate their time, energy and talents, enabling The Salvation Army to touch the lives of more than 41,000 Onondaga County residents each year and thousands more throughout Central New York.
Volunteers are needed to support programs and services that include daycare centers, after-school programs, youth services, food pantries, senior centers and homeless shelters. In addition, volunteers are needed during the holiday season to serve as bell ringers for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign and to help provide food, toys and books to more than 2,500 families at its Christmas Bureau Distribution.
The Salvation Army has 48 locations in Upstate New York. To learn more about volunteer opportunities in your community and to become a volunteer, visit salvationarmy.org, or call 1-800-Sal-Army. To volunteer in the Syracuse area, visit sasyr.org or call (315) 479-3668.
