This environmental issues site provides an overview of natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing with additional links to information.  The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) bills itself as the nation's most effective environmental action group, combining the grassroots power of 1.3 million members and online activists with the courtroom clout and expertise of more than 350 lawyers, scientists and other professionals.  The organization uses law, science and the support of 1.3 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things.  It was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement. NRDC lawyers helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws.

Riverkeeper is a member-supported watchdog organization dedicated to defending the Hudson River and its tributaries and protecting the drinking water supply of nine million New York City and Hudson Valley residents.  The website monitors hydrofracking debates and developments and believes hydraulic fracturing is not appropriate for the river shed.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) was created on July 1,1970 to combine in a single agency all state programs designed to protect and enhance the environment.  The DEC has been responsible for collecting comments from the public in reference to hydrofracking and information about this is on the website  The stated mission of the DEC is “to conserve, improve and protect New York's natural resources and environment and to prevent, abate and control water, land and air pollution, in order to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the people of the state and their overall economic and social well-being." 

Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation
