Capitol Notes

Want in the Capitol? You still have to be on the list

New York’s most exclusive club is the Capitol.

At least that’s been the case since the middle of March, when the building – and the adjacent Legislative Office Building – became off limits to visitors. Since then, access has been limited to state employees who work in the Capitol, credentialed journalists and authorized guests, according to a June bulletin from the state Office of General Services.

Guests must be authorized by the “Executive Chamber, the Division of the Budget, the Attorney General’s Office, the NYS Assembly, or the NYS Senate.” Members of the media, who work in the Capitol (like The Capitol Pressroom team), are allowed to bring in guests for in-person interviews if they provide advance notification.

There had been some hope that the Capitol would be open to visitors in phase four of the state’s re-opening process, which the region entered on Wednesday.
