Built to Serve – Addressing Senior Isolation in CNY

Senior Isolation impacts a wide range of older adults. A recent study suggests as many as one-third of older Americans are lonely, and a quarter are considered socially isolated. This month, Built to Serve presents two local programs designed to deal with that problem. Host Charles Roberts speaks with Serena Jackson of the Americorps Senior Companions Program, hosted by InterFaith Works; and with Crystal Taylor, Director of Senior Services for the Syracuse-area Salvation Army. This May, public media across New York State, including WCNY, are participating in Aging Together in New York, and effort to focus attention on the senior isolation problem.
