Volunteers at WCNY play a critical role in our mission to educate, entertain and inspire. As a WCNY volunteer, you’ll get an inside look at a state of the art broadcast and education center, be part of important activities and get the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a difference. Whether you donate a few hours or, as many have, thousands of hours, your commitment and efforts will help keep WCNY on the air.

ReadOut – Experience the personal rewards of having your voice professionally recorded in our ReadOut (LINK) program, which benefits the visually impaired who utilize this exclusive WCNY service.

Auctions – Join the more than 1,000 volunteers who help at WCNY’s on-air auctions, TelAuc (LINK) and TravelAuc (LINK). Help with the phones, serve in roles both in and outside the studio or even pick up donated items.

Special Events – WCNY hosts a variety of events, fundraisers and membership events, and you can help make them successful while you meet people from across WCNY’s 19-county viewing/listening area. Become Clifford “The Big Red Dog” for an afternoon, help promote WCNY by serving as a WCNY Ambassador at a local event, or help make a WCNY event extra special, putting your special skills to good use.

Office/Professional Help – Lend your office skills to a variety of WCNY office-related projects, such as data entry, mailings, office support or more. As a WCNY volunteer your organization, sales, marketing, computer or other skills can be put to use in support of public broadcasting.

Education Center “Enterprise America” – Be part of the excitement in the new state-of-the-art WCNY Broadcast and Education Center. The new building is more than just WCNY’s new home, it will soon house the new 10,000-square-foot WCNY Education Center and Enterprise America. Put your educational background to work – as a WCNY volunteer you can be part of all these activities.

As a WCNY volunteer, you’ll accrue benefits that are our way of showing you how important you are. In addition to supporting the mission of WCNY and helping to bring the WCNY message to the public, volunteers are recognized in a variety of ways and are celebrated at an annual volunteer recognition banquet. Those who volunteer more than 100 hours annually receive a free subscription to The WCNY Magazine.

  • Travel Auction Volunteer Form January 11, 12, 13, 19 & 20, 2018

It’s time to sign-up to volunteer for WCNY’s Travel Auction. This annual auction features destinations from across America up for bid and we need your help! The biggest need is in the auction phone bank where volunteers use a simple form to record bid information from callers eager to get in on the action. Other auction assignments include confirming (calling the lucky high bidders), call center (computer skills needed to look up member numbers and more), and hospitality (serving food to auction workers).

Each shift begins with a brief training session (if you are volunteering for more than one shift, you need to attend just one training session). For the first shift, training begins at 5:30 p.m.; second shift training begins at 8:00 p.m. WCNY provides dinner for our volunteers from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. each evening. For those volunteering during the second shift who would like a meal, please arrive by 7:30 p.m.

From the list to the right, please select the nights and shifts you would like to volunteer. The number of volunteer shifts is limited, so please respond with your preferences by December 20, 2017.

That’s it! Please submit this form to WCNY for creating the volunteer schedule, or if you prefer, email your auction sign-up information. Remember – WCNY will confirm your shift assignments prior to the start of the 2018 Travel Auction. Thank you!
