Volunteers at WCNY play a critical role in our mission to educate, entertain and inspire. As a WCNY volunteer, you’ll get an inside look at a state of the art broadcast and education center, be part of important activities and get the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a difference. Whether you donate a few hours or, as many have, thousands of hours, your commitment and efforts will help keep WCNY on the air.
Auctions – Join the more than 1,000 volunteers who help at WCNY’s on-air auctions, TelAuc and TravelAuc. Help with the phones, serve in roles both in and outside the studio or even pick up donated items.
Special Events – WCNY hosts a variety of events, fundraisers and membership events, and you can help make them successful while you meet people from across WCNY’s 19-county viewing/listening area. Become Clifford “The Big Red Dog” for an afternoon, help promote WCNY by serving as a WCNY Ambassador at a local event, or help make a WCNY event extra special, putting your special skills to good use.
Office/Professional Help – Lend your office skills to a variety of WCNY office-related projects, such as data entry, mailings, office support or more. As a WCNY volunteer your organization, sales, marketing, computer or other skills can be put to use in support of public broadcasting.
Education Center “Enterprise America” – Be part of the excitement in the new state-of-the-art WCNY Broadcast and Education Center. The new building is more than just WCNY’s new home, it will soon house the new 10,000-square-foot WCNY Education Center and Enterprise America. Put your educational background to work – as a WCNY volunteer you can be part of all these activities.
ReadOut – Experience the personal rewards of having your voice professionally recorded in our ReadOut program, which benefits the visually impaired who utilize this exclusive WCNY service.
As a WCNY volunteer, you’ll accrue benefits that are our way of showing you how important you are. In addition to supporting the mission of WCNY and helping to bring the WCNY message to the public, volunteers are recognized in a variety of ways and are celebrated at an annual volunteer recognition banquet. Those who volunteer more than 100 hours annually receive a free subscription to CONNECT Magazine.
