North Words: Creativity in the North Country

On the latest edition of North Words, we visit with Clarke and Barbara Dunham at their home and studio in Pottersville. For more than seven decades, the Dunhams have been partners in life and art. Clarke designed award-winning sets for productions on and off Broadway, including “Grind,” “Candide,” and “The Iceman Cometh.” And he and Barbara also were proprietors of a business that constructed expansive and elaborate model train sets for museums, individual private clients, and spaces for public viewing, such as the annual display at Citigroup Center in New York.

Later, filmmaker Casey Shaw talks with us about the unique view of the 2023 FISU World University Winter Games in Lake Placid he captured to make his new film, “Unseen Olympiad.” Shaw and his crew used analog film cameras, expired movie film, and a rich soundscape to chronicle the games and give them a timeless feel. The film – which also includes footage from the FISU summer games in Chengdu, China, showed in Milan during the 2026 Winter Olympics, and is streaming online now.

From North Creek to South Colton, from Old Forge to New Bremen, North Words brings you interviews, on-site recordings, and special features that remind us what makes the North Country region so special.
