WCNY Receives Four Nominations at the 65th Annual New York Emmy Awards

WCNY, Central New York’s community-owned public broadcaster, received four New York Emmy Nominations at the 65th Annual New York Emmy Awards.

The first nomination was in the category of topical programming for WCNY’s “SPD: Reckoning & Reform” series, which premiered Oct. 4, 2021.

The second nomination was awarded to WCNY Producer, Chad Patterson, in the editing category for WCNY’s “SPD: Reckoning & Reform” series, sponsored by The Gifford Foundation and Pulitzer Center.

The series follows Former Syracuse Chief of Police Kenton Buckner as he adapts to his new role as Chief of Police and looks at a city in need of change. Buckner and the department need to quickly adapt to a situation where many in the city are rallying for massive reform and change to the police force. Difficult decisions occur in an environment that keeps the pressure on 24/7, and where one simple decision can have a massive impact.

The third nomination was in the category of business/consumer programming for WCNY’s “Impact Giveback” series, which premiered Aug. 16, 2021.

WCNY, in partnership with Ithaca College, featured 60 businesses from around Central New York that weathered the storm of COVID-19 and aided in their communities during the unprecedented pandemic. The series aired across three months featuring 20 businesses per episode. WCNY’s “Impact Giveback” is sponsored by Bousquet Holstein, PLLC.

The fourth nomination was in the category of children’s programming for WCNY and The Reading League’s “Reading Buddies” series, which premiered Sept. 13, 2021.

“Reading Buddies” is a fun, foundational reading TV series for students PreK-3. The show instructs three important underlying components of skillful word reading: phonological awareness, letter names/sounds, and blending sounds to decode words accurately. “Reading Buddies” is sponsored by New York’s 529 College Savings Program.
