WCNY announces regional ‘Women Who Make America’ honorees

WCNY hosted an awards ceremony for the regional “Makers: Women Who Make America” honorees March 1 at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls. Seventeen women from WCNY’s 19-county broadcast area received awards. Nominees were evaluated on how they impact their communities and shape today’s America in arts, business, community activism, education, communication, medicine, politics, religion, science and technology, sports and volunteerism. Susan Arbetter, WCNY’s director of news and public affairs, co-host of “Insight” and host of “The Capitol Pressroom,” will be honored by “City & State” for journalism in the news magazine’s “Above and Beyond” awards. WCNY’s ‘Won’t You Help a Neighbor?’ campaign spotlights Friends in Service Here (F.I.S.H.)

WCNY’s “Won’t You Help a Neighbor?” campaign to support Central New York non-profits and charities this month will focus attention on the Friends in Service Here (F.I.S.H.), an organization that provides free transportation to medical and dental appointments for the elderly in Onondaga and Madison counties. There are five F.I.S.H. operations in Onondaga County: Camillus, DeWitt, Fayetteville-Manlius, Tully/LaFayette and Skaneateles; and one operation in Madison County: Cazenovia. Each operation is always looking for volunteer drivers and dispatchers to help. WCNY presents 44th annual TelAuc beginning April 18

A Central New York television tradition continues April 18, when WCNY’s TelAuc returns for its 44thconsecutive year. This year will mark the first time the auction will be broadcast from WCNY’s new headquarters, located at 415 West Fayette St., in Syracuse.
