Each summer, regional Bluegrass Ramble music fans mark their calendars for an event that attracts hundreds of people across Central New York: Bill Knowlton’s annual Bluegrass Ramble Picnic, the longest running bluegrass and acoustic old time country music event in New York. The 43nd annual Picnic takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Dwyer Memorial Park in Little York.

The community-friendly event started in 1973 after the launch of Bill Knowlton’s Bluegrass Ramble radio show on WCNY-FM. The show can be heard Sundays from 9 p.m. to midnight. Now affectionately known as “Mr. Bluegrass of Central New York,” Bill emcees the event annually.

This year’s program debuts Molly & The Badly Bent Bluegrass Boys, Eddie Z. and The Otisco Valley Breakdown, The Brothers Mac Rae, Mountain Top Express, Dan Duggan & Peggy Lynn, Slew Foot, Gene Clayton & Friends, The Atkinson Family, Lake Effect, Gospel Way, Northwater, Diamond Someday, Joe Lamay & Sherri Reese, The Sean Martin Band, The Salmon River Band,

The Delaney Brothers and Plexigrass.

The Picnic is free and open to the public. No R.S.V.P. is required to attend.

Bill Knowlton’s Bluegrass Ramble radio show airs from 9 p.m. to midnight on WCNY-FM.
