Deadline extended to submit nominations for WCNY’s ‘Central New York Latino American’ awards

WCNY is seeking nominations for local awards that will recognize five Latino Americans who have made a difference in their respective communities. The deadline is extended to Aug. 19.

The awards are part of “Latino Americans,” a special program WCNY will air Sept. 17 and 24 and Oct. 1. The landmark six-hour documentary features interviews with nearly 100 Latinos and more than 500 years of history.

Nominations will be accepted from throughout WCNY’s 19-county broadcast area, which includes Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Otsego, Schuyler, Seneca, Tompkins, Wayne and Yates counties. Nominees should be inspiring role models who have triumphed over struggles and challenges, and are working to make a difference in Central New York. Nominees must be 18 years or older.

To submit a nomination, visit www.wcny.org/television/latino-americans. Nominations also can be submitted by writing to WCNY, P.O. Box 2400, Syracuse N.Y. 13204. WCNY’s Education Services Advisory and Community Public Affairs committees will review the submissions.

The honorees will be featured on WCNY-TV, in The WCNY Magazine, on WCNY-FM, social media and WCNY’s website, wcny.org.

Honorees will be announced at a reception in September at WCNY’s new Broadcast and Education Center.
