WCNY’s ‘Double Down’ academic quiz show begins Nov. 4

The eighth season of “Double Down,” WCNY’s award-winning high school academic quiz show, returns with a new single elimination format, 6 p.m. Nov. 4. The show airs at 6 p.m. on Sundays on WCNY channel 24.1 and repeats at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays on WCNY channel 24.3.

Students from 32 schools will compete to win the coveted blueRock Energy Scholastic Award trophy. Teams include last season’s champion, Fayetteville-Manlius. Other competitors include Bishop Ludden, Cato-Meridian, Christian Brothers Academy, Paul V. Moore, Chittenango, Clinton, Cooperstown, Dolgeville, Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton, Ithaca, Jamesville DeWitt, Jordan-Elbridge, LaFayette, Manlius Pebble Hill, Mt. Markham, New Hartford, Northern Onondaga LEAH, Nottingham, Oneida, Oriskany, Port Byron, Pulaski, Rome Catholic, Solvay, Southern Cayuga, Union Springs, Vernon Verona Sherrill, Westhill, Westmoreland, Whitesboro and Whitney Point.
Popular WCNY on-air host Bill Baker moderates each session with questions in the categories of English language, arts and literature, history and geography, math, science arts, sports and 2012.
Major underwriters for “Double Down” are BlueRock Energy, provider of the Scholastic Award Trophy to the winning school and monetary awards to the first and second place winners, The College of Saint Rose, with additional support from Keuka College and WCNY members.
