WCNY’s Ivory Tower to Air its 1000th Episode

“Ivory Tower” is a weekly round-table discussion that focuses on news and events from the perspective of academicians from across Central New York. The show is hosted by David Chanantry, Professor of Journalism, Utica College and Director of the New York Reporting Project.

WCNY will air the 1000th episode of Ivory Tower Friday, Oct 8 at 8 pm.

“Ivory Tower” began in 2002 under the idea of bringing a show to CNY that would bring a debate-style model and discussion between academics on current events and important topics. Ivory Tower has brought together academics from colleges across CNY, ranging from Syracuse, Cornell, Colgate, Cortland, Cazenovia, LeMoyne, Utica, and others.

The show began as an idea between former WCNY CEO and President Michael Fields and Former Dean of the Newhouse School David Rubin. Rubin was also a longtime host of the show before leaving in 2016.

Another continued presence has been longtime producer Doug Moreau who joined “Ivory Tower” in 2006 and has produced and directed the show through much of its 19-year history. Under Moreau’s leadership, “Ivory Tower” continues to be one of CNY’s go-to political and news talk shows.

“Ivory Tower is an invaluable asset to this community,” said WCNY CEO and President Mitch Gelman. “It brings together the brightest minds in the region in order to give a CNY perspective to weekly current events.”

“Ivory Tower” airs every Friday at 8 pm on WCNY.
