WCNY Explores the Police Athletic League and its Work in the Community in New Documentary

WCNY, Central New York’s public communications organization, will premiere its locally produced documentary “Inspiring Youth: The Syracuse Police Athletic League” on Monday, May 22 at 8 p.m. on WCNY-TV.

“Inspiring Youth: The Syracuse Police Athletic League” is a captivating new documentary that highlights the transformative connection between the Syracuse Police Department and local children in the area. By engaging in activities that promote personal growth, self-confidence, and teamwork, the Syracuse PAL has become a catalyst for positive change in the lives of countless young individuals. This series celebrates the profound impact that sports, notable speakers, mentors, and more have on the lives of these young individuals, ensuring experiences that will leave a lasting impression.

“When WCNY reported on the Syracuse Police Department’s efforts to improve public safety and community relations two years ago, we committed to keeping the cameras on to follow work toward solutions,” said Mitch Gelman, president and CEO of WCNY. ““Inspiring Youth: The Police Athletic League” is part of that commitment.”

WCNY Producer Rubin Wright tells us that, “The show delves into how the Police, one of the primary organizations representing the community, is utilizing sports and educational programs to improve and strengthen their relationship with the community; while also serving as a means of deterring youth crime and gang participation in Syracuse by providing youth with structure, learning, and exposure to new opportunities.”

The documentary will premiere on Monday, May 22 at 8 p.m. on WCNY-TV. It will also re-air on June 9 & 20 at 9:30 p.m. on WCNY-TV.
