WCNY Public Media’s Live@WCNY presents Bill Knowlton’s Bluegrass Ramble Barn Dance, Jan. 9. Enjoy listening to the region’s best bluegrass ramble music acts in WCNY’s television studios.

Workshops: Aspiring musicians are invited to attend Bluegrass music workshops prior to the Barn Dance from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The annual Barn Dance features six bluegrass, and old time country music groups acts including: Boots & Shorts, Lake Effect, Northwater, Diamond Someday, Molly & the Badly Bent Bluegrass Boys, and Delaney Brothers Bluegrass.

The concert and recording of the Barn Dance will mark the 42nd anniversary of Knowlton’s radio program and will be broadcast from Jan. 17 from 9 p.m. to midnight on WCNY-FM.

“Bill Knowlton’s Bluegrass Ramble” is Central New York’s first all-bluegrass and old-time acoustic country music radio show. Knowlton, known as “Mr. Bluegrass of Central New York,” hosted the first all-bluegrass radio show in New York City in 1960. Knowlton started his show on WCNY-FM in January 1973.

Over the years Knowlton has been recognized for his work in bluegrass and old time country music broadcasting, festival emceeing and promotional efforts; especially by the International Bluegrass Association as Broadcaster Of the Year and its Distinguished Achievement Award.
