WCNY features ‘Going Blind’ documentary for World Blindness Awareness Month

In recognition of World Blindness Awareness Month in October, WCNY features “Going Blind: Coming out of the Dark about Vision Loss,” a documentary that shares the personal and courageous stories of people living and thriving with vision loss at 9 p.m. Oct. 18, on WCNY channel 24.1.

The documentary is directed by Peabody award-winning director Joseph Lovett, who reveals his diagnosis of glaucoma in the documentary. After years of slowly losing his sight, Joe investigates how people across the country are responding to vision loss caused by diseases, infections and accidents. He begins his journey in his hometown in New York City and gradually expands his interviews across the country.
According to Lighthouse International, 10 million people are legally blind or visually impaired, while worldwide, 37 million people have lost their vision.
