WCNY to highlight experiences of individuals with disabilities through ‘Move to Include’ initiative

WCNY, Central New York’s community-owned public broadcaster, will highlight the experiences of individuals with disabilities through the “Move to Include” initiative, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, signed July 26, 1990. Using the power of public media, WCNY will promote inclusion to further educate communities on the lives of people who live with disabilities. The initiative aims to inspire people to embrace and include those with differently-abled bodies in community life. In the month of July, WCNY will use its TV, radio, and social media platforms to foster a dialogue of awareness, empathy, acceptance, and inclusion.

WCNY’s participation in the “Move to Include” initiative honors this anniversary through television, radio, news, special events, and social media. “It is WCNY’s hope that through this initiative, we are able to promote inclusion and to further embrace people with disabilities within our communities,” said Mitch Gelman, WCNY President & CEO.

Beginning today, Monday, July 13, “Move to Include Mondays” will feature special PBS KIDS programs, segments on WCNY’s “The Capitol Pressroom,” and special feature films and primetime programming.

The “Move to Include” initiative is powered by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

WCNY-TV and Classic FM will feature educational shows and programs for audiences of all ages that highlight the inclusion and disability awareness. These programs will air every Monday in July, in addition to weekend shows and radio highlights featuring “Move to Include” topics.
