WCNY to host job fair April 17

WCNY, Central New York’s public broadcasting company, and its sister company Joint Master Control Operating Co. Inc. (JMCO), are looking for talented and creative job candidates to attend a job fair from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 17 at WCNY’s new state-of-the-art Broadcast and Education Center, located at 415 W. Fayette St., in Syracuse.

Job candidates should bring resumes and come prepared for a brief screening interview.

Broadcasting

Radio Program Director

WCNY is looking for an experienced radio professional to manage the daily delivery of local and network programming across its four radio platforms, Classic FM, Oldies HD, Jazz HD and Readout Radio. The director will supervise on-air production, including short-form programming, promotions and live-read copy. The director also is responsible for ensuring WCNY is complying with FCC and CPB regulations, managing department operations, and understanding and directing all broadcast, production and trafficking systems. Minimum requirements: A bachelor’s degree, five years’ experience in radio programming, and the ability to deliver high-quality work under deadline pressure. An understanding and appreciation of classical music is desired.

Radio Operations Technician (Part-Time)

WCNY is looking for a reliable and talented technician supporting day-to-day operations of its federally licensed public radio stations, Classic FM, Oldies HD and Jazz HD, and Readout Radio. The technician will prepare program schedules, oversee recording and program sessions, record satellite programs for future broadcast, prepare content for air, monitor audio levels and on-air quality, report equipment problems and ensure repairs are made in a hyper-timely fashion. Minimum requirements: A thorough knowledge of radio broadcast regulations, broadcast traffic operations and radio technical operations. Prior radio operations and automation experience required.

Television Producer/Director (multiple)

WCNY is looking for an energetic and passionate producer/director with superior organizational and communication skills to plan, research, produce, write and direct television production projects and initiate proposals for new programs. Minimum requirements: a bachelor’s degree in television, electronic media communications or radio, 3 to 5 years of broadcasting experience, strong script-writing and technical directing skills, long- and short-form production experience, EFP, editing and Adobe Suite applications. Knowledge of digital is essential. Must have strong attention to detail, be a proactive team player, and work quickly, accurately, and independently in a fast-paced environment.

Production Support Specialist

WCNY is looking for a television professional for a fast-paced role responsible for supporting television productions. The specialist will prepare television cameras; manage acquisition, storage and distribution of audio and video assets; and operate the audio mixing console for live and pre-recorded productions.Candidates must have prior experience mixing audio in a live environment, shading cameras, operating HD test and measurement equipment, and be able to perform basic troubleshooting to ensure high-quality WCNY productions. Prior experience with television production systems, including video servers, Adobe Creative Suite, and ProTools, is required. This position demands a process-oriented, detail-driven individual capable of working independently on multiple projects under tight deadlines, and a willingness to work outside normal business hours.

Education

Enterprise America Educator/Manager

WCNY is looking for a proven educator who can manage the day-to-day operations of its new year-round hands-on learning program, Enterprise America. Responsibilities include curriculum development, budget planning, supervision of onsite learning experiences, and marketing of the program to schools and organizations. Requirements:A bachelor’s degree with two years of classroom teaching experience (middle school level preferred), knowledge of national and state educational curriculum standards, and excellent communication skills.

Sales and Marketing

Account Executives

WCNY is looking for full- and part-time salespeople who understand the marketing needs of business customers and offer them solutions. If you can grow current accounts, generate new business by conducting proactive consultative needs analyses, and reach aggressive revenue goals, WCNY wants you. Minimum requirements:An associate’s degree and at least three years of proven sales experience.  Experience in media sales a plus.

Web Developer/Graphic Designer

WCNY is looking for a creative and experienced designer who can design, develop and maintain website pages, design engaging print publications, code HTML e-mails, interpret designs, and develop well-structured and cross-browser compatible websites and web applications using HTML, PHP and CSS. Minimum requirements: Five years’ experience in web and graphic design, CS4, JavaScript/jQuery and PHP.

Technology

Broadcast Maintenance Engineer

WCNY is looking for an experienced broadcast engineer who can thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, where he/she will be called upon to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain WCNY’s broadcast television and radio system, television studio equipment, and assist with end-user IT support. Minimum requirements: A working knowledge of digital television, including studio and RF transmission systems is required. The ideal candidate must be motivated, detail-oriented, and must be available as an on-call engineer for all of WCNY’s various systems. This position requires willingness to work outside normal business hours.

Information Technology Manager

WCNY is looking for an experienced IT professional to take on a critical position responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance, installation and planning for the IT systems that serve as the foundation for WCNY’s television and radio studio facilities. As the IT Manager, you’ll oversee operations equipment, software systems, the production environment, transmitter equipment, and all business-related IT functions. Minimum requirements: a bachelor’s degree, highly developed computer skills, including experience in designing, installing and maintaining a mixed Windows and Mac computer network system. Applicants must possess a thorough working knowledge of the latest Windows Servers, VoIP systems, and Office Applications, Lync phone system, and be able to manage IT systems with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate must be motivated, detail-oriented and willing to be available for on-call, after-hours IT support.

JMCO Broadcast/IT Engineer

JMCO is looking for an experienced broadcast/IT professional responsible for delivering public broadcasting services across New York and New Jersey, familiar with the latest broadcast technology. As the Broadcast/IT Engineer, you’ll need strong knowledge of digital video and audio systems, and digital compression technology, and know how to maintain a file-based television transmission system. Minimum requirements: A bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science, at least three years’ experience with television broadcasting systems, and a strong understating of Internet protocol and networking.

JMCO Content Manager

JMCO is looking for Content Managers to operate the systems that manage digital media assets and distribute material over various platforms to support the operation of  a multiple-stream joint television master control operation that provide services for PBS stations in New York, New Jersey and throughout the country. Minimum requirements: Experience in a multiple-stream digital media facility, strong computer and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, independent work environment.
