North Words: The North Country is a Muse
by
October 10, 2025
Giles Blunt is a Canadian author of nearly a dozen books of crime fiction, including the John Cardinal series. But he says “the muse of murder no longer speaks to him,” and so his latest – Bad Juliet – is steeped in the history of Saranac Lake, its tuberculosis cure cottages, romance, and the sinking of the Lusitania. Later, as many of us enjoy Upstate New York’s all-too-short season of autumn beauty, musician Constance Amiot shares her new album, which is an homage to the golden days that come between the end of summer and the larger transformation to come. The album is called “After Summer,” and Amiot – who lives in Paris – talks about growing up in the United States, moving to France, and writing songs in French and English.
From North Creek to South Colton, from Old Forge to New Bremen, North Words brings you interviews, on-site recordings, and special features that remind us what makes the North Country region so special. WCNY Community FM is pleased to present this monthly show from our colleagues at North Country Public Radio.
