Feminine Fusion, now in its eighth season, is the nationally syndicated program produced by WCNY-FM in Syracuse, NY. Creator and host Diane Jones (a professional composer herself) curates an hour of music composed, performed, and inspired by women throughout the centuries, from medieval works through the latest in electronic and electro-acoustic music. Each weekly program has a specific focus – women of color, instrumentalists and all-female ensembles, conductors, composers, inspiration from nature, stories from myth and fables, and biographical insights into women of note.
The excerpt submitted is from the current season, aired the week of February 3, 2024, titled “Women of Color: Performers.” In addition to Velvet Brown and Caitlin Edwards, featured performers on this episode included Isata Kanneh-Mason, Michelle Cann, and Ashley Jackson.
Feminine Fusion was recently awarded a Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which will broaden the reach and scope of this program highlighting underserved and underrecognized individuals in classical music. The show is currently syndicated to 24 stations in 19 states plus Puerto Rico. Information on current and past episodes is online
