WCNY to host community Shred-A-Thon

WCNY will host a communitywide Shred-A-Thon from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at its headquarters located at 506 Old Liverpool Road in Liverpool. WCNY staff members will begin shredding efforts earlier in the day as part of their preparations to move to Syracuse’s Near Westside.

The public is invited to bring items to shred as part of this green initiative that can help protect consumers from identity theft. Suggested items to shred include old checkbooks, financial statements, old bills, contracts, manuscripts and personal letters. A $5 donation is suggested.

In keeping with the green theme, proceeds from the Shred-A-Thon will help pay for three rain gardens located in WCNY’s new facility as a part of the company’s Capital Campaign.  The first 200 people to shred and make a $5 donation will receive a seedling.

The event is sponsored by Proshred, the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and Sustainable Office Solutions.
